Fluorspar is used in many different industries (see below). Metallurgical Fluorspar for instance, is used to aid the removal of impurities in the production of stainless steel and as a flux in metalworking. It lowers the melting point and so increases energy efficiency. The main application area for acid grade Fluorspar is the production of hydrogen fluoride by adding sulfuric acid. In addition, Fluorspar is used in the manufacture of Teflon® coatings and GORE-TEX® products.
