Chamotte, also called fireclay, is a refractory material produced by firing clay or kaolin at high temperatures. It is characterised by its high heat resistance and refractoriness, making it widely used in refractory applications. Fireclay is widely used in the manufacture of refractory bricks, cast iron pipes, crucibles and ceramic kiln materials. Its porous structure allows good heat storage and insulation, making fireclay an important raw material in the metallurgical and ceramic industries.
